Home Remedies for Covid

This article continues from its predecessor which explained the historical role of herbal medicine in treating viruses

In this article I wish to list 4 powerful home remedies which have a potential to boost your immunity to safeguard against the onslaught of the Covid virus.

First of 4 Home Remedies for Covid

Black Seed – Nigella Sativa

The first of these is the Black Seed, known as ‘krishna jiraka’ in the sanskrit, and ‘hei zhong cao zi’ in Chinese.

Sacred & Academic References

Prophet Muhammad pbuh stated:

“This black cumin is (a source of) healing for all diseases except death”.

[Bukhari]

The Black Seed finds mention in the Bible too. Its usage has been recorded since at least 1,325 years BCE. The famous Greek physician Hippocrates is also reported to have referenced it.

To quote an extract from important academic research:

“… black cumin’s healing powers are completely real, and they do not seem impossible once one understands that they all stem from one source – the plant’s ability to stabilise and strengthen the body’s immune system.”

[Schleicher and Saleh]

The book ‘Black Cumin’ by Schleicher and Saleh is available at any bookstore. Click here for the Amazon page.

The mizaj (temperament) of the Nigella sativa seed is hot and dry. The seed strengthens and stabilises the body’s immune system and supports metabolism and digestion. It is also known to help in lowering blood sugar.

Surely in this is a sign for those who reflect.”

The Noble Qur’an (16:68-69)

Honey (botanical name Mel, ‘asl in Arabic, ‘shahad’ in Urdu, ‘mì táng’ in Chinese) is produced by bees called Apis (honeybees). It can be found in its typical amber colour but may also be red, brown, and even nearly black.

Honey has many uses, notably for helping in coughs, colds, and the digestive system.

Honey has been documented as being used as a medicine throughout Europe, as well as through areas of Arabia and China. There are hundreds of studies all over the world confirming the usefulness of honey as a food and medicine.

Third of 4 Home Remedies for Covid

 Zingiber officinale – Ginger

“And they will be given to drink a cup whose mizaj (mixture or temperament) is of Zanjabeel (ginger)”.

The Noble Qur’an (76:17)

Ginger is known as ‘zanjabeel’ in Arabic, ‘adrak’ in Urdu, ‘gringavere’ in Sanskrit, and ‘jiang’ in Chinese. Its taste is pungent and odour aromatic. The mizaj (temperament) of fresh ginger is hot and moist, while the temperament of dried ginger is hot and dry.

Due to the mizaj of ginger being hot, it is an excellent medicine to use in any cold or phlegmatic condition, such as cold or flu. For colds and flu, bacterial or viral, ginger will be found most helpful, as it promotes heat, induces perspiration and destroys germs and poisons.

Sacred and Academic References

“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.”

The Noble Qur’an (24:35)

In revelations at the end of the New Testament it is written, “a tree of life whose leaves were for the healing of nations”.
